United Way of Onslow County’s annual ‘Vine and Dine’ fundraiser will take place on May 3rd with a new Kentucky Derby theme.
The event will be at the Waltons Distillery Event Center in Jacksonville with tickets on sale for $50 each. Patrons can try samples from local restaurants, distilleries, breweries and vineyards. There will also be live music, a viewing of the race and other derby themed activities.

Joe, originally from Iowa, made the move to Jacksonville in 1990. He now resides in the downtown area with his partner. Joe's unwavering commitment to helping others extends to friends, family, and the community. Since 2017, he has been an active volunteer with CHEW (Children Healthy Eating on the Weekends). Joe's motivation to give back stems from overcoming childhood food insecurity.
Lisa Heavilin, a dedicated community leader and finance professional, hails from northern Indiana, where she attended Purdue University. It was during her time at Purdue that she met her husband, Mitch, who is currently active duty in the United States Coast Guard. After relocating across several states, Lisa and her family have called Jacksonville, NC, home for the past 10 years.
Diana King Barnes is a remarkable individual who has made a lasting impact through her entrepreneurial ventures and unwavering commitment to her family, faith, and community. With a heart dedicated to making a positive difference, she has achieved remarkable milestones throughout her life.
Shelly is the spouse of a USMC Veteran and has been married for over 30 years. She has resided in Jacksonville, NC for over half of her life and plans to retire here. She is the proud mother to three White Oak Viking alumni and is a grandmother to 4 amazing boys. She previously worked for the Onslow County School System and loves working in a field that helps and/or teaches children. Shelly graduated from Coastal Carolina Community College and holds an Associate's in Arts Degree, with a concentration in Elementary Education.
