United We 'Can' contest collects donations for CHEW
With students now back in school, the Children Healthy Eating on Weekends, CHEW, program is more important than ever, and the United Way of Onslow County is holding a community competition to collect donations.
The United We “Can” sculpture competition is in its third year and was created as a way to replenish CHEW shelves following the busy holiday season.
The CHEW program provides food for students in need to take home with them each weekend.

United Way of Onslow County kickoff fundraising campaign
The United Way of Onslow County is kicking off this year’s fundraising campaign to give away grants to organizations in the community that help those in need.
Lawsuit filed to restore funding for Senior Community Service Employment Program
The Democracy Forward Foundation has filed a federal class action lawsuit against the Department of Labor to restore funding for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), which had been frozen.
The program provides work opportunities and job training for low-income seniors over the age of 55. Congress approved funding for this year’s program back in March, but the Department of Labor has yet to release the funding.
