ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) - United Way of Onslow County's 'Summer Feeding Program' is back in partnership with Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church.

This program offers free hot meals to children under 18 at the Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1503 Hargett St., Jacksonville. It starts June 15th and runs until August 21st from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday. It will be closed June 19th and July 3rd.

United Way of Onslow County President Raquel Painter says their 'Children Healthy Eating on Weekends' (CHEW) program feds over a thousand kids during the school year. CHEW bag will also be available during the summer program.

"There's over 50% of children that are on free or reduced lunch here in Onslow County," Painter said. "We want to make sure we have a place for children to come get their meal in the summertime. There's nothing worse than being hungry and not knowing where to go."

Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church says the program aligns with the church's goals.

"We sit in the middle of tract 26, which via the census is an economically distressed area," Grover Lewis III said. "One of the things that is needed is food, and this partnership with United Way aid in providing that for the community.
