United Way of Onslow County is partnering with Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church to launch a new program that will feed children over the summer.
Starting June 16, 2025 until August 21st, the organizations will serve hot meals Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. out of the church’s new fellowship hall. United Way of Onslow County’s President Raquel Painter said children will also pick up United Way’s CHEW (Children Healthy Eating on Weekends) bags Thursday with enough food to get them through the weekend.
“We are hoping to serve 100 on the first day and increase after that.” Painter said. “We’re really going to be determined on how many children show up, but as long as they keep coming through the doors, we’re going to feed them.”
United Way already serves 1,100 children every weekend during the school year through the CHEW program.
