The Department of Labor has yet to release funds for this year’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), leaving some senior citizens without a job.

SCSEP gives low-income people over 55 years old part-time jobs and work training. The federal program has been around since 1965 and is one of the oldest of its kind.

Congress approved funding for this year’s program in March, but the Department of Labor did not give the funds to its national grantees ahead of the program’s start date in July.

A spokesperson with the Department of Labor said in a statement to WNCT that “the funding for SCSEP national grantees is under review.”
