This course addresses the planning considerations and operational requirements for an effective donations management system at the local level. A special emphasis is put on the importance of collaborative partnerships between local government, voluntary agencies, and community organizations as the key to success in volunteer and donations management.
Participants must have some responsibility to oversee, coordinate, and/or assist with the local donations and volunteer management functions during disasters.
G-489 Management of Spontaneous Volunteers in Disasters

In every disaster there are well-meaning people who want to help in the affected area by volunteering. Often they are not put to work and/or leave disenchanted which can result in unpleasant community relations. Participants will learn to how to resolve the issues and challenges associated with the coordination of spontaneous (self-deployed) volunteers; how to develop a plan for your community; and how to establish and operate a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) where volunteers are matched with needs. This course will also discuss best practices for managing volunteers including their use by Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters.
If you at not a member of the Volunteer Coordination Team, your training is over at Noon on Wednesday July 23.

United Way of Onslow County will walk through specific procedures, action plans, duties and assignments for the assigned 15 person Volunteer Coordination team in times of disasters.
FEMA Independent Study courses IS-100.b and IS-700.a (mandatory for Volunteer Coordination Team members only) need to be completed between now and August 10, 2013. Certificates can be emailed, faxed or mailed to Lauren Welch at United Way, contact information below.
