INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY

United Way works to ensure critical, health and human services are available to people in our community through Community Investment Grants to local partner agencies. In addition, we provide special initiative and emergency funding to multiple other projects and programs throughout Onslow County.

Childhood Hunger

1 of 5 children in NC struggle with hunger, and over 11,000 students are on free or reduced lunch in Onslow County Schools. Food insecurity during childhood can have lasting effects on brain development and overall health. Learn how the CHEW Program provides a lifeline to these children.

Disaster Preparedness

A crisis disrupts the building blocks of a good life: education, income, and health. Disaster work is foundational to our mission of mobilizing the caring power of our community. Learn more about the Jacksonville-Onslow Disaster Relief Fund or sign-up to be a first response volunteer.

Financial Stability

As many as one-third of working Americans do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. For families walking a financial tightrope, unable to save for college, a home, or retirement, United Way is here to help. Learn more about our SmartCents: Financial Stability Center.

Homelessness

Some communities have a very visible homeless population—ours is not one of those. Many of our homeless stay in shelters, hide in the woods, or live in their cars. Homelessness is a serious problem -- both for the people who are homeless and for all of us who don't believe that anyone should have to live without a place to call home.
