Stuff the Bus

One of the best parts about getting ready for the new school year is picking out new school supplies, but some area families can’t afford these necessary materials.

A backpack filled with pencils, pens, notebooks, and erasers are just ordinary school supplies to most kids, but to a homeless child those few items can be treasured, helping to bridge the gap between fitting in and feeling different.

July 30 launches a week-long blitz to “Stuff the Bus”--a school supply drive for homeless and needy children, presented by United Way of Onslow County.

School supplies are must haves for students starting classes in the fall but not everyone can afford what's required on the first day of school.  With 403 homeless children in Onslow County and countless more either at-risk or in extreme need, these supplies are a lifeline for children to begin the school year right.
